Get a repair fixed, in writing

A clear, dated repair request your landlord can't misread, a follow-up, and calm next steps if nothing happens.

Do this either way (free)

  1. Put every request in writing (email or letter), with the date.
  2. Describe the problem, where it is, when it started and how it affects you.
  3. Take dated photos or video.
  4. Ask for a specific timeframe and how to arrange access.
  5. If nothing happens, follow up in writing, then contact your city or county housing or code enforcement office.

Not legal advice. We don't cite laws or deadlines in your letter; rules vary by state, so check yours or ask a local tenant organization.
